Coming from the US where you can live 10 years next to someone and never get to know them, I found it fascinating how communal Cubans lived. Doors are often left open, neighbors and friends often helped raise each other's kids, people without televisions commonly watched TV through the windows or living rooms of others, you got the feeling that neighborhoods were more like large families.
