Havana, Cuba - Waves crash on the rocks along El Malecon during a sea storm. In the background is El Morro lit by a shaft of light.
Castillo de los Tres Reyes Magos del Morro (or El Morro) is a picturesque fortress guarding the entrance to Havana Bay (La Bahía de La Habana). Perched on the promontory on the opposite side of the harbour from Old Havana, it can be viewed from miles around as it dominates the port entrance.
El Malecón is the avenue that runs along the seawall at the northern shore of Havana, from Habana Vieja to the Almendares River. The condition of the buildings along the Malecón can vary from modern high-rise hotels to crumbling and potentially dangerous buildings. During sea storms such as this, waves can be seen crashing over the seawall onto the street.
