Habana Vieja, Cuba - One of the most common questions I get when walking around in Cuba is "Where are you from?" Given my Asian appearance, answering them with "Estados Unidos" only results in a confused look. After a while I learned to just tell them first that I was born in Vietnam, at which point, they usually flash a surprised look (surprised that I'm not Japanese), followed by a big smile, and finally an endearing thumbs up while exclaiming "socialismo!" (nevermind I'm from the South). It seems everyone was a lot of fun to talk to, from the genuinely curious (as was the case with this man), to even the hustlers trying to get money from you.
